Ironman Training – Day 3
Written by admin on October 5, 2006 – 12:08 am -Success! Finished my first masters class this morning which started at 7am. I rode my bike down to the gym, it’s only 2 miles each way. It was a peaceful morning, a bit on the chilly side, but just what I needed. I was placed in the ’slow’ lane, there are typically 3 lanes (slow, fast, fastest) I told the coach my time if i were to do 10×100’s, so i said 1:45/1:50. I know i could probably do a bit faster, but with it being my first time, and with only one other person in the lane, it was perfect. I actually was able to breath bilaterally for most of the swim. It’s funny, I can now tell when I change my breathing because it doesn’t feel as comfortable now just breathing to the right, or to the left. Big, Big progress.
After an hour and 15 min., i had done over 3000 yards in the pool. Much more than the 1700 yards i had originally planned on doing. The big chunks at the start, 200, 400, 300 got me into rhythm, so i’m thinking i should start to do that more often. I don’t feel that worked, or maybe what i had built up in mind was much worse.
I did an upper body workout after the swim. Felt good to stretch out and get back to the weights. I’m only doing 2×12 reps right now, keeping it somewhat light and building slowly.
I feel like Mon – Wed are the toughest training days. I have a bike/run tomorrow, a swim on Friday, and then all 3 on Saturday.
