Masters Swim – A Dose of Reality

So decided to hit a masters class today, one which i’ve never been to before, and one that Jess said was pretty intense. And that right there is what drew me to the class, on a day which i didn’t have my swim scheduled. So with a positive attitude, I was placed in the slowest lane of 5. No problem, i’m cool with that. Actually turned out to be perfect for me. I was pushing myself more than I do on my own swims, and that was the goal. I felt pretty good, long and strong. I guess you could call it the main set, even though i was huffing and puffing for almost the full hour. But we had 4×350’s and had about 15-20 seconds rest. I only used the paddles and pull buoy for 150 yards of the 3rd one. Then after that is was 3×100’s on 1:50. And these I led the group, and hit about 1:30’s, really pushed it. I’m thinking I need more of this, and get out of my comfort zone, at the most once a week.
Ran in the afternoon, my long run, but bagged some z4 mileage. I figured with Sunday’s race, i’ll be putting in 3 miles of z4, if not z5. My track set was better than it’s been in the past few months. I was hitting z4 pretty easily, and my pace was right on. I negative split 5×1000’s with 200 in z5 immediately before each set. I was psyched about that aspect. And I wasn’t mentally into it, so figured I should rest my brain and just accept these 5 and go out on top.
Ended the day with a great massage from Jess. Man, she saves me each and every week!

Wow – you’re so brave – you and Jess both. Ok, not brave, more like talented. I would NOT even be allowed in the building during a masters class. haha. GREAT JOB! I would have puked in the pool fo’ shizz. What run are you talking about Sunday? Are you running Colfax?
