Written by admin on November 9, 2008 – 6:38 pm -Quick Recap:
Ran the 10k Turkey Trot yesterday. Finished with a new PR.
Time: 39:58
Age Group: 2nd
Overall: 23rd out of 365
More Details:
I rode to the race in the morning, 20 miles. Then warmed up and was ready to race. Tim Perley and Craig Wilson were also racing, so it was good to see some familiar faces out there. Last year, Tim won the race, beating out Matt Reed. I started slow, keeping my heart rate below a cap that Tim set. Then after mile 2, I just started to build up the pace. At mile 5-6, I really felt like was pushing it. Ran my fastest mile, 5:45. Then pushed it to the finish. Heard Craig W behind me the whole way, waiting to pounce. Was glad to see the sub-40min, as that was my goal going into the race. A great mental victory going into Ironman in 2 weeks. I ran in the Lunar Trainers too, no issues, but i had my blister taped up pretty good.
Then Craig Howie and BSG met up with me after the race to help finish my mileage. We headed out east, and I mean EAST. I think we were close to the Kansas border…seriously. Wind was kicking up pretty strong, oh, because THERE’S NOTHING OUT THERE! I was so appreciative to have them both out there with me. I needed the company to push me through it. Coming into the closing weeks of Peak, it really helps to have friends around to help you through the tough times, the unmotivated times.
Jess was pretty excited too. She took me out for a celebratory meal/beers at the Southern Sun, our favorite local eatery. A game of scrabble and 2 beers later, it was 6:30pm, and time to settle in for a movie…didn’t make it too far. Fell asleep. Good night of zzzzz’s. I got a great text from Jess after I sent her my time from the race. It’s a keeper, she’s the best motivator and supporter. Always has been. And it wasn’t the standard “don’t be a P because P’s don’t go to Kona’. But that’s a good one!
